The Municipality of Herakleidon, the third of Kos' municipalities, occupies the western half of the oblong island. In this area exist the village of Antimachia (which is the capital of the municipality) and bilaterally, at the south and north end, respectively exist the village of Mastichari and Kardamena with continuous fertile plains. At the western end, on the "head" which is formed on the narrowest part of the island, exists the fourth village, the hilly Kefalos.
On the municipality's open horizon spreads around the SE Aegean Sea in which numerous distinct islands are scattered.
The constitution of the area's soil differs in great degree from the other municipalities.
